SAHARA
Meaning
desert in Arabic, Sahara is the world’s largest desert, its
size defies imagination. Sahara is approximately 25% of Africa
taking up, 4.5 million square kilometers of the continent. Today
Sahara serves as a border between the continents, black African
south and Arabic influenced north.
MOROCCO
Lean on
the Mediterranean Sea and looking out on to the Atlantic Ocean
is a beautiful country of Morocco. In 1840 two European powers
France and Spain showed interest in colonizing the country.
In 1904 France and Spain came to a secret agreement to divide
Morocco. French owned most of Morocco and Spain controlling
a small southwest portion, which became known as Spanish Sahara.
SAMARKAND
Located
in Uzbekistan and known to Greeks as Marakand, Samarkand is
one of the oldest cities in the world, the oldest of central
Asia. Samarkand is home to Tamerlane, Ulukbek, and famous landmarks
such as Bibi Seneb Mosque and Bibi Khan Mosque. Conquered in
329 B.C by Alexander the Grate, Samarkand was use as the meeting
point in the ancient route between Middle East and China. In
central Asia Samarkand emerged as a center of Islamic civilization.
